Lighting Design

The role of the Lighting Designer is to design and implement creative lighting for successful and entertaining live events including theater, dance, and corporate/industrial meetings. In coordination with other departments, engineer a lighting plan using given equipment inventory. It is to present a completed written and drawn plan to other creative departments and coordinate its implementation and modification with available time, equipment, and labor resources. It is to supervise facility/event staff to make certain all lighting requirements are met to the satisfaction of the client.

However, first and foremost it is to assist in the telling of the story.

The Choreographer can experiment in the privacy of the studio. A composer can work out musical ideas alone or with other musicians.  A designer of costumes and scenery can develop sketches on a drawing board. The lighting designer’s images can be realized only very publicly, usually under great economic pressure involving time, space, and personnel.
